Joy School

Jack's Joy School is in full swing and he loves it. He's already made some good friends and talks about them all the time. A while ago, I thought to myself that he wasn't really asking that many "why" questions. That's supposed to be the hallmark of this age and he asked why sometimes, but it was manageable and so I was worried that there was something wrong (what?! Me worry?). Well after his first week at Joy School, we were in the car on the way home and let's just say, the "whys" began - and they haven't stopped since. He inquires about everything and is willing to explore things in much more depth. I love it! He talks about what he learns and the books that they read (he LOVES books) and he talks about the kids. He really enjoys getting to see the different houses and cried the other day when he found out that Joy School was at a park instead of a house... I think it's because he likes to try out the toys. Here's some pictures from their day at the park: Gracie loves Joy School too... The whole class: And their silly faces... The week after these adorable photos were taken was my week. We had Joy School at our house! Yikes! We had a packed curriculum and I barely finished half of it on the first day. And so, I hardly got any pictures. Their unit is the Joy of the Earth and on our first day we read about seasons and orange and learned a new song and Joy Boy (the puppet) visited and read about the life cycle of an apple tree and made apple sauce and discussed seeds and planted seeds and learned an apple song and made a seed collage and ate our apple sauce and that's only half of it... See why I didn't finish? But I loved it! We had so much fun although 3 and 4 year old exhausted me way more than teaching sixth graders did and I even had Katie to help me (thank you Katie!). Here are the kids walking to the green: And their seeds (and Jack's Halloween count down).... Thursday was even better! They had a pet sharing day (I got one of the neighbors to come out because we only had a turtle) and the day was all about animals. They sang songs, read about white, hopped, waddled, flew and ran, made bird feeders, learned about the products that animals give us, had animal crackers and milk for snack, read about the different houses that animals have and played animal games... Too cute! Here they are opening their Joy School windows: And here's Jack sharing about his beloved Rovit (his stuffed dog)...

St. Jude Trike-A-Thon

The kids participated in their first official act of charity... The MOMS Club organized a trike-a-thon to benefit the children of St. Jude. Jack and Grace received a few donations and then rode like the wind! It's a wonderful program, if you are looking to organize an event for your pre-school group, this organization would be well worth your hard work. Best of all, the kids are helping kids! It was really easy and as a club we raised over $600.00! We have all the way until Friday, so if you want to contribute, there is still time! When I asked Jack what he thought about helping other kids that are sick, he said that "it's good." Then we told him that those kids don't have money to go to the doctor and he said "why?" (I told you Joy School has really got him thinking)! But it made me wish I was him! Especially when we received the bill for his MRI today - it sure made me grateful for our insurance and for Jeremey working to earn it. We're so lucky in so many ways and it's a blessing to be reminded of it. Anyway, when it comes down to it, he thought it was a big race and said over and over that HE was going to WIN! Lining up... Jack and Milan... always together... Jack and Lila, she's in Joy School... These kids rode and rode and rode and we finally had to stop them! It was amazing, not one of them stopped of even slowed down, I think it could have gone on forever! Time to celebrate with a picnic! And all of the MOMS! Yay! PS. Look for us in the Chino Hills Champion - I wrote my first press release! and more pictures are here...

Aiden's Big Superhero Birthday Adventure!

As always, Jamie really out did herself! She's such a great party planner and the kids had a blast! There was a bounce house, superhero shirts, superhero capes, super drinks and snacks and a real visit from SPIDERMAN! Spiderman read the kids a book - they loved it! It was really cute to hear the kids comments about him... One said "Spiderman! I can see your zipper!" So now Jack tells me that Spiderman came to the party - he was real and he had a zipper 'cause that's how he gets dressed..." My silly girl...Spiderman even jumped in the bounce house! Here's Jack getting his cape... Great idea Jamie! At one point, Aiden disappeared for a little while... Jack waited for him at the top of the stairs because "he's my favorite friend." Happy Birthday Aiden! I'm so glad that you are Jack's favorite friend!

Halloween is in the air!

I have to say that Christmas is getting some tough competition from Halloween in our house. Our house has been decorated since September and Jack loves every bit of it. Last year, we got pieces for Mr. Potato Head that you put in a pumpkin. Jack could not wait to do this - because Mr. Potato head is from Toy Story (a current obsession) and because it's a VAMPIRE Mr. Potato Head! **Not once did I ever think I'd be the mom with a kid who knows about vampires - UGH!** Anyways, he couldn't wait for a real pumpkin, so we got a fake one, it's carvable and everything... pretty cool. Daddy and Jack worked hard on making it just perfectly... So proud of his finished product! Then we had to get a skeleton at Michael's while we were getting the pumpkin... But my excuse is that it's purely educational. :) In Joy School, they've been learning about the body - particularly the "hinges." So Jack got to put the skeleton together and put in all of the hinges!Of course he needed tools... Look! It's just like the inside of me!We also made a chain to count down the days... He's cutting off one link each day and is so excited! Additionally, in honor of Autumn, we had to visit Disneyland! She looks so grown up!Knock, knock! Is Alice there? BFF's on the teacups! Jamie and Aiden... Aren't we lucky to have such great friends? And one for each of us! Happy Halloween!

Playdate

Once a month we have a playdate at the local gymnastics place. The kids love climbing and jumping on all of the padded equipment and jumping into a huge foam pit! It's really cute to see them having a great time with all of their friends. AND the staff is AMAZING! I really want to know what these people eat for breakfast - they have so much energy and the kids adore them! They play with the kids the entire time (keeping them safe and resolving all disputes fairly) and they never have that "look" - you know the one that means they've had enough... They're really, really great! Here's Grace leading the big kids: Jack in action: Milan in the tunnel... my kids LOVE her! It's really nice that she's friends with both Jack and Gracie!
